The Seed. IDENTITY AND LAND

Our personal and collective fulfillment is tied to nurturing our know-how. The commitment we put into our work has shaped the beauty of this land through passion, care, and continuous improvement. A land that is Cantiano, it is Marche region, it is Italy

Our culture relies on hard work and high quality. We are small entrepreneurs and farmers, humble, simple, and rich in traditions.

Morelloaustera Sour Cherries cover more than 11 hectares of Cantiano lands.

Thanks to great care and long experience in selecting our suppliers, our farm can provide and naturally produce on its own the entire offer of black cherries and jams.

The partnership with Italia Zuccheri sugar factory represents a meaningful example. The factory is the only one that can rely on a 100% Italian and environmentally sustainable supply chain.

The black cherries are grown by us and selected farmers with whom we share the traditions linked to this product and have built a trusting relationship over time. Every year we meet outside the national borders to strengthen our partnership and do better and better together.

History and Legend

In the last century, Cantiano Black Cherries were highly prized also by the Italian royal family. An original document from 1928 states that King Vittorio Emanuele II used to order Cantiano Black cherries from an acknowledged local producer.

Earlier than 1925, other historical documentation also proves that Cantiano Black Cherries received many awards and honors, such as the Gold Medal at the International Exposition in Paris and the Cross of Merit at the International Exposition in Milan.

The Black Cherry Tree comes from Eastern Europe and The Middle East, particularly from Armenia and the Caucasus regions.

It is said that Roman military tribune Lucius Licinius Lucullus imported the tree to Italy. After the Third Mithridatic War in 65 B.C., he picked a plant of Black Cherry and planted it in the gardens of his villa in Rome. The spread in our countryside was a fortunate consequence.

ASSOCIATION OF VIRTUOUS MUNICIPALITIES
Cantiano is made of unspoiled nature, the Catria mountain, and the “Bosco di Tecchie” natural reserve as well as an evocative medieval historical center and archaeological findings. Cantiano is not only the Town of Bread, Black Cherry, and Catria Horses, it also stages one of the most important folkloristic theatre events in Italy that takes place on Good Friday and is called “La Turba”.

Cantiano is characterized by a unique atmosphere that stems from the authenticity, warmth, and sincerity of the relationships between its people, and a lifestyle that is free from stress and based on care, cheerfulness, and good food.

Nowadays, Cantiano Black Cherry represents a key product for niche entrepreneurial initiatives. The limited territorial production and the harvesting difficulty allow for the production and marketing of exclusive delicacies.

Horse Fair

The Horse Fair is an event dedicated to horse breeders and workers that takes place on the first and second weekends in October and, since 2022, also in spring. It includes equestrian shows and competitions for the public. The fair has reached the 44th edition of the Horse Exhibition and the 37th edition of the Catria Horse Festival.

It is plenty of typical products, street markets, and amusements.

The Catria horse is the only indigenous equine breed in the Marche region and is in danger of extinction.

Nowadays, about seventy companies and individual farmers are breeding Catria horses,
mainly in Cantiano and Frontone municipalities.
Marche Region Register recognized the Breed Registry in 1980 and the former Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry authorized it in 1990.
